Maori Language Week

Week Eight was Maori Language Week.

Kia ora te reo Māori – Māori Language Week 2017

Maori language week opened with an assembly on Monday and closed with another on Friday.  On Friday we were very lucky to have a visitor, Whaea Lois, who talked to us about keeping Te Reo alive. She was truly inspirational and talk about talented. WOW!!! she could totally win New Zealand's Got Talent.

Once again we worked with the beautiful Room 19 to learn a rakau song,  E Papa Waiari.

We had a great week, learning new waiata, singing the ones we already knew and working on a basic conversation using Te Reo.

Check out this cool video mashup showing what all of the classes got up to throughout the week.

Thanks to all the teachers who made this week great!

“The new Māori Language Act 2016 sets up a new organisation, Te Mātāwai, to lead the revitalisation of the Māori language on behalf of iwi and Māori. Together we will ensure that the Māori language has ‘ora’ – life, health and vitality – which is what we convey every time we say ‘kia ora’. Quote from the education gazette.
