Volvo Ocean Race Trip

Thank you Miss McAree for this trip. Yesterday Rooms 8,9,10,11 and 12 went on a fantastic journey to the Auckland Harbour to see the amazing Volvo Ocean race sailing vessels and do lots of activities that were related to sailing and no plastic so rest in peace plastic because we won’t be thinking about you in the same way.

At 7:45am all the seniors gathered outside for what shaped up to be an epic adventure. At 8:30 we were on the open road, well it
wasn't completely open, I mean it was more packed than Farmers on Christmas Eve, Ten minutes later and we were still on the road melting like snowmen on a summer's day. Finally we arrived at our destination… the city.

The Classroom: Our first activity was turning a boring white plastic bag into a beautiful recycled flower for an arch way to say goodbye. After that we went on a quest to find answers through the Maritime Museum that would lead our team win victory. After that we had morning tea because our stomachs were grumbling.

The Globe:
Then we  went to the globe to listen and learn about Wisdom the albatross and how plastic and rubbish are harming our oceans and everything that lives in it. We also learnt how plastic can make our beach disgusting so if you see plastic on the ground, please pick it up.

The Chopped Boat:
We loved crawling over the boat. As we entered we were challenged to find the toilet. Well we found it but I wouldn't want to use it.
We certainly thought that the job of grinder was not an easy one. We couldn't even keep going for 30 seconds.

Lunchtime Concert:
What a great way to spend a lunch time. I wish we could have this sort of entertainment every day at school.

Sailing: We loved loved loved the sailing. We were splashing each other and some of the girls dipped their head into the water as the boat tipped to the side. Some of Room 11 were worried as we were getting ready but it was so much fun.

  1. Great photos and information about our epic trip, Room 11. I was blown away by the bravery of the sailors who risk their lives every day in this race. They literally need to work closely as a team-their lives depend on each other.

let's hope that the supermarkets get rid of plastic bags very soon-let's all make an effort to picking up rubbish and to saying "no" to plastic bags.

    Ka pai Room 11 :)
