Our trip to the zoo got us thinking about what we think about zoos.
We have written persuasive arguments for and against zoos.
Many of us love animals and we were able to think of pros and cons about zoos which made choosing one side of the argument quite difficult.
In the end I don't know that anyone changed their minds but Room 11 have certainly done some great writing.
Have you ever thought on how zoos can change a terrified and endangered animals life? No, well here are some facts on what zookeepers do to make that happen.
Firstly, animals get badly hurt everyday but when they’re put into zoos they get taken care of and they are also safe. Animals are protected from poachers and predators of their species when they’re in the zoos. Zoo animals don't get hurt or starve to death.
Secondly, when you are out in the wild, animals are hard to have first hand contact with. In zoos, there are animals that we can feed, touch and have a better look at, but most of all we get taught environmental issues and ways we can support the animals.
Penultimately, people may say that zoos don't think about the vast space that animals really need. From a baby baboon to a giant whale, each animal has a amount of space that they will need in life. Today zoos have made areas that are open and just like the animal’s habitat. Animals like a giant whale are not kept in zoos because they would need huge amounts of space. Zoos know what the animals need.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that zoos are a heavenly place for animals to stay safe and delighted. Animals get to play around and also have heaps of space to live in, so we believe zoos is a good place for animals.
If you knew animals were being tortured, poached and killed in their own habitat where do you think would be a safe and secure place for them to be rehabilitated and protected? If you were smart you would have said the zoo, so the argument saying zoos are evil is preposterous.

Here are our arguments FOR zoos
Do you think zoos are a great idea? Are they just a waste of time and money? Well, we think zoos are just the right place to keep animals well and satisfied.
Firstly, the zookeepers actually take care of the animals. For example, they get separated from the predators who kill and eat them. The animals get regular meals unlike in the wild where they have to hunt for their own food or even starve until you can see their bones! The creatures in the zoo don’t get a gun to their heart unlike the poor animals who are shot by stupid people in the wild.
Secondly, if you’ve been to the zoo and at the cafe, you would’ve seen a sign saying:”PUT YOUR RUBBISH IN THE RIGHT BIN! SAVE THE WORLD AND ANIMALS!’’ If everyone who took a trip to the zoo saw that sign, the world wouldn’t full with plastic and pollution! Do you want animals dying in a world full of plastic? If your favorite animal was a lion, would you want it to die? Would you care?
People may say that animals aren't able to grow properly in zoo cages, but here’s a solution. When you’re building the zoo and you’re working in the Elephant area, you could make it 20x bigger than a stage used for famous people, so they have lots of room to roam around. If you’re doing the monkey area, there has to be room for TALL trees for them to swing, climb and run around so they can be cheeky in all ways.

An elephant can paint and squash a giant pumpkin. A polar bear can play with a plastic ball, and all the other animals can do something fun too.

If you think zoos are horrible you're absolutely wrong. Safe, amazing and awesome, zoos are definitely a stable caring paradise for animals.
Firstly zoos take care of endangered animals. They’re taken care of brilliantly by the zoo keepers. They are fed regularly and they dont starve. Wild animals are taken from the wild where they can get hunted and devoured by bigger animals. In zoos they make sure their animals are safe and sound. If animals are looked after properly the only thing left for them is a playmate which zoos provide. This ensures happiness for them and they’ll never want to leave.
Secondly, zoos are family friendly which brings enjoyment to the family. They will learn more about animals and this could help them in the future if they encounter deadly animals. For example if they go hiking in another country and stumble across a tiger, lucky for them they were at the zoo which is a great environment full of information about lions. Not only will it be informative at the zoo it will also be a fantastic way of spending time with the family.
People may say that zoos are cruel because they keep animals in cages but if you look at the facts, zoos make sure their animals are occupied and never get bored. This is called animal enrichment. Animal enrichment is where zookeepers do D.I.Ys for their animals. They make ice blocks with meat inside, fake deers and cardboard rolls filled with their favourite food. This ensures they will never get bored and will always have something to do. Not only do they keep them occupied, they make sure they’re healthy physically and mentally in the brain. In the end animals there are happy healthy and strong.
After hearing our argument, can you say zoos are a living hell? Safe, brilliant and caring, zoos are the best place for animals to be.

Do you think zoos are the best idea? Well I do!. If there were no zoos how would you see a lion or a zebra? Would you see one across the road? Would you buy a two way ticket for hundreds of dollars to go to Africa and back? You could just go to the zoo and spend less money.
Others may say zoos are horrible but I disagree with them because all the animals have something to do. A tiger has a fake deer to catch and the tiger can also lick an ice block with meat in it. An elephant can paint and squash a giant pumpkin. A polar bear can play with a plastic ball, and all the other animals can do something fun too.
Thirdly, it is like paradise and a stable home for animals and they always have fun.
Lastly, all of the animals will not get eaten by their predators. Would you want to get eaten from your predator if you were an animal? Do you want the animals to be eaten?
We strongly believe that zoos are a better place for animals to live. They are a good idea because they keep animals occupied and happy.

If you have never heard of a meerkat, you might wonder where that tunnel will lead you. You can go crawling under it and you see some meerkats walking around.
Thirdly, baby animals have to go to other different zoos a few days later they are born to keep them safe and healthy. Penguins lay their eggs in snowy, freezing, cold countries like Antarctica. Animals like meerkats do not like the rain but they like living in the warmth of the sun. Zoos make the animal enclosures like the animals home so they will be happy and safe.
Lastly, all of the animals will not get eaten by their predators. Would you want to get eaten from your predator if you were an animal? Do you want the animals to be eaten?

ZOOS ARE A HEAVENLY PARADISE FOR ANIMALS

As our opening point, we believe the animals are always properly looked after. Zoos are great because the animals are always feed like kings so they never starve. But in the in wild food is not always available because of droughts and humans stealing their natural resources. Also, there are many dangers in their habitat which makes the zoo a very safe place. Sometimes lions go days without food, how would you feel if you were a mother and couldn’t provide food for your little ones so they grow and prosper?
Our second point is that endangered animals are cared for in zoos. They are helped by special breeding programs which improve the species population. Plus future generations will see those endangered animals thanks to the zoo. In the wild animals such as rhinos, elephants and many other creatures are killed every day for their precious ivory. How does it feel knowing animals are dying because of your selfish needs as a human?
It may be true that some animals live shorter lives in the zoos than those in the wild, but what would be better for the animals, being ripped limb by limb, by a vicious predator or dying peacefully in the tranquility of their zoo home. You have the power to change their fate, it's your decision?

Firstly, we think zoos are good because the zoo animals are provided a safe home and a good environment.The animals are cared for, getting fed the right amount of food. Animals should always have a wash after they play so they can be clean. The animals don’t get hurt by other animals.
Secondly, we also believe that zoos are a brilliant idea because the zookeepers provided things for the animals to play with so they don’t get bored. Fore example balls, ice blocks, cardboard figures, pinata and a spoon bell keep the animals active. This is very important because the animals have to stay entertained so they can have a lot of energy.
It may be true that animals who are kept in cages are unable to grow properly, but zoos are not a prison to animals. They do not keep animals in cages.
