Our second session with Tina was all about reading the labels on food to find the healthiest option. We were comparing breakfast cereals and I think everyone was surprised by the findings. Tina wrote the information in a table so it was easy to make a comparison.
Then we had to guess the sugar content of a range of drinks. Everyone in the room got the drink with the least sugar... you guessed it... water. Good, healthy, plain old water. The next was the milk we get at school. Most people guessed the worst one too. It was the 1.25l of Stars bubbly drink. It had a whopping 33 teaspoons of sugar. The recommended daily intake of sugar for a child is 5 teaspoons and this one bottle had 33. That is disgusting!!
Tina told us that when we are reading the table on the labels, we should be taking note of the fat, sugar, and sodium amount per 100g.
We should be eating food with less than 10g of fat, less that 10g of sugar and less than 400mg of salt or sodium.

We have been surprised and shocked by some of the things we found out today. Most of us have declared that we will try to make healthier choices.
