This term we have been lucky enough to have Kerry taking us for Mindfulness once a week.
Here is an outline of how today's session went.
Today we started with Kerry asking us if we had used mindfulness. There were some people who had taken deep breaths when they were in stressful situations throughout the week and they told us about how they tried to calm themselves using mindfulness.
First we did three soft belly breaths. Kane rang the bell to start us off. After the bell rings, we have to do mindful listening to hear when the bell ends.
Kerry said to breathe in and say "Here" and breathe out and say "Now." When we do Loving Kindness, we say in our heads "May you be healthy, may you be kind and may you be friendly."
Today for mindful movement we did a movement called Tawhimatea which the majority of the class voted for. The way we did it was by starting with two breaths in and out then we acted crazy like the wind, flopping our arms. The thing that made some of us laugh was Kerry's face. The movement made us refreshed.
After mindful movement Kerry asked for three volunteers to hand out the food. Before we got the food we had to play a game of hangman to guess what it was. It was organic tiger nuts from Ghana. Most people disliked it and did not want to eat it but a rare amount of people thought it was amazing.
We finished with Merceius ringing the bell. We did three deep breaths at the end to calm down. We put our hands up in the air when we couldn't hear the bell anymore.
Kerry says thank you and we say thank you back then he goes to the next class.
Written in groups by Room 11.
I think that it is great that we have the opportunity to learn mindfulness techniques. There are so many benefits from using these great breathing and relaxation techniques. It is great to see that you are enjoying the learning with Kerry. He is such a great (calm) guy :)
