The Big Hoot

The Big Hoot is coming to Auckland early in 2018 and thanks to our friends at Mainfreight, we are able to take part. They sponsored an owl for BMPS and Room 11 were chosen to create their masterpiece. Jimmy the Owl will come back to us once he has been with all of the other owls next year as part of the Big Hoot Exhibition which is raising awareness and funds for the Child Cancer Foundation in New Zealand.

We began by discussing in groups what we wanted Jimmy to be about - did we want to tell a story,  make people think about an issue or to just be a great looking piece of art, did we want him to reflect us in any way... So many questions to answer😕

Miss Peters narrowed our ideas down to music and we based our art around a book called Over the Rainbow.

We love music and when Jimmy the Owl comes back to us he will be nice and bright and fit right into our beautiful music room.

We each did some research and created our own design.

We kept Jimmy hidden during the painting process but we gave everyone a little snippet of what was happening

Here are some photos of our art work in progress. First came two layers of the undercoat..

Then the first stripe of colour...

Once the background was done we set about adding the details.

So now we are nearly finished. The finishing touches will be added and a final tidy up of a couple of extra blobs and smudges will happen. Jimmy gets a coat of gloss to make sure he will be safe in any weather then he will have to go back into his box to be delivered.

Watch this space for the amazing finished product. :)
